Considering Distance Learning and Student Loans

Most of us struggle to complete our tertiary level education (either degree or diploma) and tend to blame the circumstances. Most of us will say something like “I dropped-out of varsity because I couldn’t afford the tuition fees”. Well, if one is really serious about furthering their studies, why not do it via distance learning or get a student loan.

Furthering studies through distance learning

Distance learning refers to any studies where one is registered with an institution and they get study materials and study at home without attending any daily classes. Distance learning is advantageous because:

  •  It is cheaper
  • No classes attended
  • One can study even if they have a full time job
  • Send correspondence by post, drop in or via online resources

One internationally recognised institution for distance learning being University of South Africa (UNISA). With UNISA, one can further their studies from anywhere on the world, sends assignments via online resources and there are exam centres in most of the countries around the world. Applying for a student loan

Either you are attending classes fulltime of you are in a distance learning environment, you can finance your fees using the student loans. Some student loans such as eduloan has reasonable repayment terms while others such as NSFAS can be converted to bursaries if the student has performed well. So one needs to take advantage of these facilities. One can also approach their banking institution of choice to apply for student loans.
